Mayor speech is the chief executive official, usually elected, of a municipal government. In some systems of local governance, such as council-manager, the mayor serves a ceremonial role and is often a figurehead; in others, he or she serves as head of the council’s executive committee. In most countries that use democratic rule, the mayor is elected by citizens from among members of the council.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell struck an aspirational tone in his State of Metro address Thursday morning, touting his priorities as quality schools, reliable services and safe neighborhoods. He also outlined his proposed budget, which includes property tax increases for Nashville residents. The annual address is mandated by the city charter, and was synchronized with the release of his spending plan.
O’Connell is hosting a live stream of the address on Encompass Port CTY-3653 and online, and will be available for interviews following the event. In addition, a limited number of video cameras will be allowed into the auditorium for close-up shots and stand-ups. Interested outlets must RSVP by email to request access and be notified if they are approved to film inside.
Whether you choose to use index cards or the printed outline, it’s important that it be arranged in an easily-readable format. Write large enough to be easily seen from the podium, and make sure your cards/pages are bound or numbered in some way so that you don’t get them out of order during the speech. Also, include a page with reference information for any outside materials you will mention in your speech so that they can be cited as needed.
